Valentina Kozlova Dance Conservatory Spring Gala 2013 - Peter Norton Symphony Space - April 20, 2013 : Founded in 2003 by former Bolshoi and New York City principal ballet dancer, Valentina Kozlova, the Valentina Kozlova Dance Conservatory of New York provides dance instruction and pre-professional training based on traditional Russian technique and George Balanchine's rapid footwork. The school prepares students for a career in dance. Students of the school have received top awards at several national and international ballet competitions, including the Youth America Grand Prix and International Ballet Competition-Varna. The Dance Conservatory Performance Project (DCPP), started in 2004, is a non-profit organization created and directed by Valentina Kozlova. Its mission is to foster classical dance and disseminate education, both as a traditional art form and an evolving performing art form. Through classroom work, scholarships, performance presentations, the commissioning of new works, and its newest initiative, the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Compeition, DCPP strives to nurture, educate and promote budding artists. DCPP is the proud presenter of Valentina Kozlova Dance Concervatory of New York students in performances of The Nutcracker and the Annual Spring Gala. DCPP also produces the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet competition. After two successful editions in Boston, Boston International Ballet Competition has moved to NYC and been renamed Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition. It will take place June 27-30,2013 at LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts. Sophead Pich - Art Installation "Compound" - Brookfield Place - April 18, 2013 : Cambodian artist Sophead Pich's art sculpture "Compound" was exhibited at the Winter Garden Atrium of Brookfield Place from March 28, 2013 to April 18, 2013 as part of the Season of Cambodia Festival. Contemporary Cambodian artist Sophead Pitch (born 1971) lives and works in Phenom Penh. Pich works principally in rattan and bamboo, constructing organic open-weave forms that are solid and ethereal, representational and abstract. "Compound" is a large-scale installation that speaks to the recent, aggressive construction boom and the resulting depletion of natural resources in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. Comprised of eighty-three voluminous bamboo and rattan grids and tubular modules, "Compound’s" reticulation echoes modern architecture while its natural materials and transparency create a meditation on the idea of city itself. "Compound" is presented in collaboration with IN RESIDENCE, the visual art program of Season of Cambodia: A Living Arts Festival and Tyler Rollins Fine Art.

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana - Lincoln Center - April 4, 2013 : Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana performs at David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center on April 4, 2013. The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in conjunction with Lincoln Center presents "100 Years of Flamenco in New York", an exhibition of pictures, films and performances taking place from March 12 through August 3, 2013. "100 Years of Flamenco in New York" pays tribute to the legacy of Spanish and American dance artists and to the role of the city in shaping Flamenco into modern art. Dance troupe Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana was founded in 1983 by Carlota Santana and Roberto Lorca as Spanish Dance Arts Company. After Mr. Lorca's untimely death in 1987, Ms. Santana continued the company. Over the past 30 years, the company has grown into one of the premier Flamenco dance companies in the U.S. with a mission to: 1) Promote flamenco as a living art form, a vital part of Hispanic Heritage 2) Create quality new dance works and present them in major theatrical venues 3) Present arts education programs that catalyze connections among people of different cultures 4) Nurture the next generation of Spanish dance artists During the performance, luminaries of New York's Flamenco community danced to the delight of the Lincoln Center audience.
