David Michalek's "Portraits in Dramatic Time" is a series of 45 larger-than-life, extreme slow-motion video portraits of virtuoso artists drawn from a range of film and theater practice. The ultra-high speed, high-definition camera used for the portraits was placed in a fixed position and each live action scene was recorded for 10 to 15 seconds at several thousand frames per second. The result is a glacially-paced film of six to seven minutes in length.

The actors filmed for "Portraits" represent a range of performance genres including Broadway, avant-garde, experimental theater, Chinese opera and world cinema. Each scene-portrait is developed as an independent work by Director David Michalek in collaboration with the subject.
